There are two metal (usually aluminum alloy) axles that connect the board and the wheels attached to the board.

Axles have two parts.

The part that is screwed to the board on top is called the baseplate, while the part that is underneath is called the hanger.

There are bushings, rubber parts or grommets between the baseplate and the hanger.

These parts allow the mechanism to work when the skateboard needs to turn.

The bushes act as a cushion for the axle during turning.

The tighter and harder the bushes, the more stable the skateboard will remain.

The softer the bushings, the easier it is for the skateboard to turn left and right.

A large screw called a kingpin holds these parts together and is perfectly sized and compatible with the inside of the bushings.

By tightening and loosening the nut of the kingpin, the axles allow the skateboard to turn.
